Beloved young man electrocuted readying generator for load shedding

A beloved young man from Komatipoort was electrocuted while he was readying the generator for load shedding.

THE BELOVED YOUNG MAN, DEWALD, WAS ELECTROCUTED LAST WEEK

According to a report by the Lowvelder, Dewald Prinsloo (18), a learner of Komatipoort Akademie, went outside his family home to ready their generator for the switchover to load shedding on Sunday evening, April 2, at about 21:00, when he was accidentally electrocuted.

HE WAS READYING THE GENERATOR FOR LOAD SHEDDING

Despite both paramedics and a doctor on the scene performing CPR, he was certified dead after 23:00 that night.

Messages of condolences and fond memories have been shared on social media since his passing.

DEWALD LOVED RIDING MOTORCYCLES AND FISHING

“Our deepest condolences to Tinus and Monnique Prinsloo on the death of their son Dewald. Our hearts go out to his entire family and all his friends.

“Dewald loved riding motorcycles and fishing. He had a passion for rugby and very big dreams. He was a goat for sports and always willing to help.
Dewald was part of the Voortrekkers. He was a young man who enjoyed being in nature.

“Our prayers are with his loved ones in this difficult time ahead.

“May the peace that comes from memories of love shared comfort you now and in the days ahead.”

HE WAS A YOUNG MAN WHO ENJOYED BEING IN NATURE

Dewald’s celebration of life will take place at the United Church of Christ the King in Komatipoort on April 11 at 10:00.

Last year, a mother from Welkom died after the generator she wanted to start exploded during load shedding on Wednesday.

THE MOTHER OF TWO SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES 

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the fatal incident happened on Wednesday. 

“Apparently, it was load shedding at about 15:50 when a Welkomite woman, Riana Barkley, wanted to switch on the generator when it exploded,” he said. 

The 41-year-old Riana lived at Lakeview in Welkom with her husband and two children. She sustained severe burn wounds on her upper body, hands, feet, and face.

Thakeng said Riana was rushed to the Welkom Medic Clinic, but she, unfortunately, died at the hospital. 

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT 

“A case of inquest has been registered for further investigation,” he said. 

Riana posted on her Facebook an advert for a generator a month before her death, saying this should work for the eight hours of load shedding they get a day in Welkom.
