Police searching for parents of a baby abandoned at Laudium Clinic

Police are seeking information about the parent/s of a baby that was reportedly abandoned at Laudium Clinic in Pretoria, Gauteng.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is urgently requesting information to locate parent/s of a 2-week-old baby girl that was abandoned at Laudium Clinic in Pretoria.

The baby was reportedly abandoned on 7 February.


Police have urged anyone with information to  contact Detective Warrant Officer Mokori of PTA Central FCS on 012 353 4372.

In a recent incident, a newborn baby boy was also found abandoned at a construction site in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, 2 February 2023.

The baby was reportedly found wrapped in a plastic bag and was estimated to be a few hours old.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, they found the baby in a hypothermic state. They worked quickly to stabilise it before transporting it to a nearby hospital.

Nadene Grabham, co-founder of Babysavers SA, has expressed her disappointment in the situation.

“It’s time to take steps towards legalising safe relinquishment of infants in South Africa. [We are] currently building our network of safe drop off points across the country and we urge all people to come on board and support us in our efforts to save these little lives,” said Grabham.
