AVOID beachfront activities- WARNING for damaging waves

The SA Weather Services issued a WARNING for damaging waves and advised the public to AVOID beachfront activities.

A WARNING is in place for damaging waves along the South Coast on Saturday. 

AVOID BEACHFRONT ACTIVITIES – WARNING FOR DAMAGING WAVES

The SA Weather Services (SAWS) issued a level 2 warning for damaging waves in several parts along the South Coast. 

It advised the public to AVOID beachfront activities.

THESE AREAS WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE WARNING

The following areas will be affected by the warning: 

  • M_Umdoni / M2 Scottburgh
  • M_Ray Nkonyeni / M1 Port Shepstone
  • M_Ethekwini / M3 Durban
  • M_KwaDukuza / M4 Tugela Mouth
  • M_Mandeni / M5 Mtunzini
  • M_uMlalazi / uMhlathuze / M6 Richards Bay
  • M_Ray Nkonyeni / M1 Port Shepstone

“Localised disruptions of harbours/ports are possible for a short period of time. Difficulty in navigation for small vessels in a short period is potential.”

SMALL VESSELS MAY BE AT RISK AT CAPSIZING

The SAWS warned that small vessels may be at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality.

“Avoid beachfront activities like swimming or shore/rock angling. Small vessels should avoid going out to sea if possible.”

Meanwhile, a level 1 warning is in place for disruptive rain in the following parts of the country on Saturday: 

  • Nelson Mandela Bay / Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth
  • Ndlambe / Port Alfred
  • Sundays River Valley / Addo
  • Kouga / Patensie
  • Sundays River Valley / Addo

“The disruptive rain is expected to result in localised flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas. Difficult driving conditions and traffic disruptions can also be expected as a result of reduced visibility in the expected rainfall. Minor motor vehicle accidents may be possible due to slippery roads or pooling.”

WARNING FOR DISRUPTIVE RAIN IS IN PLACE

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to secure their properties. 

“They are also advised to be aware of flooded areas when driving and try to avoid them if possible, especially areas that are prone to flooding.”
