On duty armed response officer shot dead and firearm stolen

The armed response officer from Blue Security was allegedly shot dead while seated in his parked vehicle and his firearm was stolen in Phoenix.

An armed response officer from Blue Security, Premchund Mohanlall was allegedly shot dead while on duty. 

The incident reportedly happened on Thursday night 13 October in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal. 

ARMED RESPONSE OFFICER KILLED

According to emergency service, Netcare 911 reports indicated that an armed reaction officer was sitting in his vehicle which was parked on a grass patch next to the road when he came under fire.

Spokesperson, Shawn Herbst said when medics arrived on scene they found the patient, an adult male approximately 40-years-old, lying on the floor.

“The patient was assessed. However, he showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased by an Emer-G-Med Paramedic.”

According to Blue Security, the armed response officer had worked for the company for ten years and was committed to serving and protecting the community daily. 

Furthermore the company said Mohanlall will forever be remembered for his dedication to community safety and his positive and energetic character. 

“In these tough times, we hold our fallen hero and his family in our thoughts and prayers. We would also like to thank our industry partners and the community for the heartfelt tributes pouring in.”

The incident comes just days after a man was shot after he allegedly attempted to stab an armed response officer on Cowey Road in Morningside, KwaZulu-Natal. The man who is approximately 30 years old  attempted an armed robbery when the officer intervened and shot him. The incident reportedly happened on Monday, 10 October 2022.

According to emergency service Emer-G-Med,  paramedics responded to the scene to find multiple law enforcement agencies in attendance. 

Spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen said the man was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

“Reports from the scene are that the man was attempting an armed robbery when an armed reaction officer intervened. The suspect allegedly lunged at the officer with a knife attempting to stab him. The armed officer fired a shot in defence of his life wounding the suspect. The reaction officer was not injured in the ordeal.”
