ANC Youth League elects new leadership

Mbalula tells newly elected youth league leaders to be unapologetic in voicing their views and opinions to the governing party’s leaders

Collen Malatji has been elected unopposed as the new African National Congress’ Youth League President. This marks the first time the structure has had a leader in five years.

THE YOUTH LEAGUE’S TOP SIX:

The Youth Leagues entire top six were elected unopposed at a conference at the Nasrec Expo center. 

President: Collen Malatji 

Deputy President: Phumzile Mgcina

Secretary General: Mntuwoxolo Ngudle

1st Deputy SG: Tsakani Shiviti

2nd Deputy SG: Olga Seate

Treasurer General: Zwelo Masilela

ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has implored the importance of the Youth league stucture in the organisation. 

“We want young people to reclaim their own youth league. We don’t it ever to be convened by the ANC or to be disbanded, because this notion of disbanding Youth league structures is politically problematic” says Mbalula.

Mbalula also emphasised the importance of the young leaders to further educate themselves as the country’s youth ‘does not follow mediocrity’.

“You must pay particular attention to personal development. We must go to school and study and get degrees and celebrate education and make it fashionable.”

“We can no longer celebrate mediocrity because the youth of today to not follow mediocrity” he adds.

ANCYL WAS DISBANDED IN 2019

The previous regime was disbanded in 2019 after the league failed to hold an elective conference in 2018 and elected new leadership that will succeed Collen Maine.

One of the main issue was regarding the ages of those vying for or holding positions in the you league and sought to have a youth and vibrant youth league to lead the organisation.

A breakaway group calling themselves ‘Revive ANCYL Movement’, demanded the ANC NEC disband the youth leadership saying ‘the leadership is too old and ineffective’.
