Three African National Congress (ANC) councillors will likely face disciplinary action from the ruling party following reports that some ANC members were involved with Jacob Zuma-led Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party activities.

The party’s provincial secretary in KwaZulu-Natal, Bheki Mtolo, said public representatives participating in other parties’ activities will face disciplinary action. He said the party has considered Zuma to have left the party.

ANC: WE WILL NOT BE DISTRACTED BY MK PARTY

“Action will be taken against the three councillors whose names will be made public once they have written to them about this matter,” Mtolo said.

He said the ANC was campaigning to win the elections and would not be distracted by the MK party. However, Mtolo said they will only allow their members to serve two parties within the Tripartite Alliance

He said MK was not the only party formed during the build-up to the elections, there were many other parties which the ANC hoped to silence after its manifesto launch on 24 February at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will launch their election manifesto at the same venue on 10 February.

MEMBERS WHO ASSOCIATE WITH OTHER PARTIES WILL BE EXPELLED

“All ANC public representatives participating in activities of other political formations are summarily suspended with immediate effect, and they will be brought before the ANC Provincial Disciplinary Committee,” he said.

The secretary said party members who associate themselves and participate actively in activities of other political parties that contest elections against the ANC are presumed to have left the ANC and voluntarily terminated their membership.

Mtolo said those members would be removed from the national membership register.
