Alleged bullying at Queens High leads to student’s death

Brian Ndlovu, a Queens High School scholar Grade was allegedly poisoned by a bully from the school. He later died in the evening of 31 July 2023.

Queens High School in Johannesburg has been making headlines following a tragic death as a result of an alleged bullying incident.

According to reports, the 15-year-old learner at Queens High, named Brian Ndlovu was allegedly forced to consume poison by a bully from the school.

The learner fell sick after returning from school and later died on Monday, 31 August at Hillbrow Clinic.

Kaya FM reported the incident brought the issue of bullying within the school to the forefront, as another parent came forward with their pleas to the school that seemingly went unheeded by the school.

Since the news broke, Queens High School has had a high police presence as members of the EFF and community came together to express their outrage over the loss.

Gauteng police probing scholar’s sudden death

Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says the cause of death is not yet known at this stage.

“An inquest docket for further investigations has been opened, and the cause of death is not known yet, pending post-mortem results,”said Nevhuhulwi.

Parents handed over a memorandum to the Gauteng Department of Education

ZIMOJA reported that parents handed over a memorandum to the Gauteng Department of Education to have the alleged school bullies suspended.

 Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Steve Mabona said that a psycho-support team will be sent to the school.

We have sent out our investigating teams to find out what transpired at the school and will be handling the matter with urgency,” he said.

Previous kidnapping case at Queens High School

It has been reported that in 2020, a pupil (14) was kidnapped outside the school and later found at Maponya Mall after alleged kidnappers demanded R 500 000 in ransom.

The Gauteng Department of Education said the circumstances around the boy’s return were not clear.

After the police interrogated a friend and the Uber driver who transported the children, he said, “He just called me and said that I must come and fetch this boy, he’s going to meet someone at Maponya Mall.”
