The AKA case shows what the South African Police Service is capable of.

Arrests have been made in the AKA and Tibz murder case, with several suspects expected to appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court. A shooting outside Wish (a Durban restaurant) took his life.

The SAPS have thanked their hardworking officers, including investigators who worked tirelessly to bring evidence to light.

Here’s why it’s a victory for SAPS and a good thing for South Africa.

AKA case shows what SAPS is capable of

The murders against rapper Kiernan, AKA Forbes and Tebello Tibz Motsoane happened on 10 February 2023.

Police investigations have led to successful arrests, with seven suspects taken to book for their crimes. The Police Committee have welcomed the arrests, and the tireless work of investigators and officers involved.

The arrests happen just over a year after the murder.

A court appearance comes next for the suspects, scheduled in Durban Magistrate’s Court.

AKA case: SAPS speaks

The South African Police Service (SAPS) have thanked officers for their hard work in solving the case.

According to Minister Bheki Cele, some of the involved officers haven’t slept for over 48 hours. The officers have served justice, sacrificing their time to ensure

Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi also thanked the officers during a press conference.

Mkhwanazi has emphasised the need for thorough police investigations, saying that any questions about the court case should be directed to the National Prosecuting Authority from here.

Without SAPS, the killers might have walked free.

More about AKA

Kiernan, AKA Forbes, was born on 28 January 1988.

Considered one of rap’s rising stars, his first album ‘Altar Ego’ was released in 2011. A single from this album is what shot him to stardom, making him one of the biggest artists in the local scene.

AKA’s murder happened on 10 February 2024.

AKA’s death is irreversible, but this could mean progress for the South African justice system.
