The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has drawn to a close, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has recognised the players and teams who made this edition unforgettable.

Nigeria’s William Troost-Ekong, a pillar of strength and leadership, secured the Man of the Competition award, while South Africa emerged with two major wins: Ronwen Williams as Best Goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana as the Fair Play Team.

AFCON 2023: Top Scorers and Defensive Stars

Troost-Ekong’s unwavering captaincy and impressive goalscoring tally, including a crucial goal in the final, propelled Nigeria forward.

Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea’s Emilio Nsue dominated the scoring charts with five goals, including a breathtaking hat-trick against Guinea-Bissau, earning him the Golden Boot.

Angola’s Gelson Dala and Egypt’s Mostafa Mohamed also left their mark, securing the Silver and Bronze Boot awards, respectively.

Bafana Bafana exceeded expectations at AFCON 2023, with Ronwen Williams’ penalty-stopping prowess and commanding goalkeeping earning him the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper title.

Furthermore, the team’s exceptional sportsmanship and discipline were recognised with the Fair Play Team award, capping off a successful campaign.

Coaches and Rising Stars

Other AFCON 2023 award winners tell an equally compelling story. Emerse Fae, who took over as Ivory Coast’s coach mid-tournament, masterminded their triumphant championship run, earning him the Best Coach distinction.
