ActionSA vows to hold Polokwane Mayor to account for delayed Water Projects
ActionSA commits to the third of households in Limpopo without water to ensure basic services are provided for all.

ActionSA in Limpopo is committing to hold Polokwane Mayor, John Makoro Mpe, to account for delays on critical Water Projects.
ACTIONSA REFLECTS ON LONG OVERDUE WATER PROJECT IN POLOKWANE
Sello Lediga, ActionSA Limpopo Provincial Chairperson, says in May of this year the Mayor of Polokwane had committed to completing the much-anticipated Seshego Water Treatment Project within three months, but true to the ANC government and its promises, the project is still not done.
“I, alongside Capricorn South Regional Chairperson, Elphas Mokoena, conducted oversight at the facility, including 4 other major construction projects that remain incomplete in the Polokwane area.”

ABOUT THE DELAYED WATER TREATMENT PROJECT
He said the state-of-the-art Seshego Water Treatment Plant, which was first commissioned in 2019, is now set to be completed in December. This is according to contractors who seem confident that they will not hit a snag with the recently augmented budget.
“As ActionSA, we are cautious to not be overly optimistic about promises from the ANC-led government. We have seen in previous cases how well-meaning projects such as this and the Giyani Water Project, are easily hijacked by corrupt politicians and officials who plunder project monies by shifting goalposts indefinitely and increasing budgets exponentially,” Lediga claimed.

ANC-LED PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT ACCUSED OF NOT CARING
He added that the Seshego Water Project is no different and they will be monitoring the progress of the project and giving constant updates on the project to ensure that the residents of Seshego, much like those in Giyani, are not taken for a ride by this uncaring government.
“ActionSA takes this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to Seshego and many other communities in South Africa that struggle to access reliable and adequate quantities of good quality water. We commit to the third of households in the province, which are reported by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to be without water, to provide them with alternative government that will ensure basic services are provided for all,” he said.
Lediga further emphasised that water is an extremely important resource for the people of Limpopo and indeed the country. “This is why ActionSA will not relent in impressing upon the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mnchunu, and his government to supply water to our people as they are constitutionally duty-bound to do so in Giyani, Seshego and the whole province,” he concluded.
