African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) leader, Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, says countries, including South Africa, that want to see peace should tell Hamas to accept Israel’s right to exist within secure borders.

He says the Palestinian militant group is to blame for its war with Israel and that his party plans to challenge President Cyril Ramaphosa in Parliament on his comments that the International Court of Justice judgment has paved the way for a Palestinian state.

‘I WAS SURPRISED THAT THE FOCUS WAS ON PALESTINIANS’

Meshoe told SABC News that when the court application started, he was surprised that the focus was on Palestinians and not Hamas since he says the Palestinian militant group is to blame for the war.

“We know that a two-state solution will not be possible until the right of Israel to exist within safe and secure borders has been accepted by both Hamas and the PLO.”

“We need to talk about true peace cannot exist between one person who says I want to remove you from the face of the earth and the one who’s being threatened. True peace is not possible,” he said.

A MORE CONCERTED EFFORT TOWARDS A CEASEFIRE: MESHOE

The ACD leader also said that countries, including South Africa, that want to see peace should tell Hamas to accept Israel’s right to exist within secure borders.

“We firmly believe that following this judgment, there should now be a more concerted effort towards a ceasefire, and negotiations should commence on a permanent two-state solution to enable Israel and Palestine to live side by side,” Meshoe said.

ACDP STANDS IN SUPPORT OF ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE

The ACDP says it stands unequivocally in support of Israel and the Jewish people at this critical time and calls on all South Africans to pray for the innocent victims and their families and to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”

The party does not believe this court case is in South Africa’s best national interest.
