Senzo Meyiwa trial: Court hears accused 3 had dreadlocks in 2014

Pictures of accused 3 show he had dreadlocks around the time Senzo Meyiwa was killed. He was also contacted by accused 5.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria heard that accused 3 in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial had dreadlocks in 2014 the same year the goalkeeper was killed.

This was revealed by Colonel Lambertus Steyn a data analyst in the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Friday, 28 July as he continued with his testimony.

ACCUSED 3 IN MEYIWA MURDER CASE HAD DREADLOCKS

Meyiwa was gunned down at the home of his then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo on 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus.

Five men are on trial for the murder of the soccer star, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition.

Steyn kicked off his testimony by showing links between Khumalo and the accused in the matter. Cellphone records revealed that Khumalo was in contact with accused 1 Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and accused 5 Fisokuhle Ntuli before and after Meyiwa died.

Regarding accused 3, the data analyst told the court that he was arrested in 2015 for murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and during his arrest a phone was confiscated from him.

Steyn said photos taken from the phone showed that Mncube had dreadlocks and the most recent photo was taken on 25 October 2014. In addition, in the photos Mncube wore beige civilian clothing.

Witnesses who have taken the stand in the case testified about a suspect who wore a hoodie that was caramel like in colour, who was short, medium built who also had dreadlocks.
