Springbok giant’s triple delight: A World Cup, a birthday and a baby

Eben Etzebeth stays winning, on and off the field. On Saturday, the towering Springbok second rower helped South Africa to a Rugby World Cup title and on Sunday he celebrates his and his wife, Anlia, announced their pregnancy to the world.

Etzebeth started for the Springboks against the All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup final and put in a big 46-minute shift before making way for the Bomb Squad to see out the game.

After the Springboks’ epic victory, the players and staff alike shared the wonderful moment with their nearest and dearest in the stands.

But Etzebeth and his Afrikaans musician and actress wife, Anlia, arguably had the most to celebrate out of everyone associated with this remarkable Springbok achievement.

Today, Sunday 2 October, is second the Springbok lock’s 32nd birthday and he believes South Africa’s World Cup triumph is a birthday present to him. He shared a photo of himself with the World Cup trophy and his gold medal on his Instagram stories and wrote “Happy birthday to me”, during the early hours of the morning.

But there was more good news to come out of the Etzebeth family. A couple of hours after Etzebeth’s post, Anlia announced her pregnancy by posting a couple’s photo of them with the World Cup trophy with her baby bump clearly visible.

She captioned the post: “BESSINGS upon BLESSINGS!🏆🤰🏼🎂☔️. Thank you Lord!🙏🙏🙏. Well done Bokke & HAPPY BIRTHDAY my liefste man!!🥳❤️”

And there might still be more good news on the way for the Etzebeths, with the Springbok lock tipped to be crowned the World Rugby Player of the Year at the glamorous awards ceremony in Paris tonight.
