Zanzibar, an island off the coast of East Africa, and Gambia, a small West African country are hotspots for European tourists looking for more than just a getaway.

KENYA’S BEACH BOYS

The young men who engage in this profession along the coastlines of Kenya are commonly referred to as the “beach boys”, according to an article published by IOL.

The columnist and researcher, Tatenda Gwaambuka, wrote in an article that the African men’s sexual prowess is what attracts European women. “When they come, they are served, serviced and pampered. Older women from Europe and North America are now known to frequent African resorts in pursuit of ‘sexcapades’ as they are called,” he wrote.

The Gambia, officially the Republic of The Gambia, and shortened to just Gambia, has a reputation as a place where young black men are willing to sleep with older white British women for monetary incentives or financial security. These young men are called “bumsters”. Gambia is a poor country with low wages and high unemployment rates and therefore many young men are willing to engage in these ‘transactions’ to support their families.

GAMBIA GOVERNMENT TIRED OF UK WOMEN

After more than 30 years of receiving thousands of middle-aged women that arrived with this sex tourism intention, the Gambia government is tired of these UK women. The former British colony is seeking to attract “quality” visitors as this tiny African nation works to change its reputation as a sex tourism destination, reported Travel Noire.

MULTIBILLION-DOLLAR INDUSTRY

According to IOL, sex tourism is becoming a multibillion-dollar industry with service industries, such as the airline, restaurant and hotel industries, profiting. Some of the countries that have become popular destinations for sex tourism include the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Kenya, Colombia, Gambia, Senegal, Kenya and Tanzania.
