A 50-year-old motocross rider is fighting for his life after a freak accident at a popular track in Bronkhorstspruit.
Emer-G-Med emergency services said the accident happened on Sunday.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the man had been ejected over his handlebars, suffering spinal cord injuries.”
Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize him before he was airlifted to a nearby hospital for immediate definitive care.
Meanwhile, a man was killed in a freak accident in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday in an unrelated incident.
A 54-year-old man died at his home after he was allegedly struck on his head by a tree branch in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram the man was struck by a branch while felling a tree at a friend’s house.
The injured man was dropped off at his home by his friends.
The man’s mother told paramedics that she had to assist her son up a flight of stairs leading to their home and noticed that he was experiencing difficulty while breathing.
He also had visible injuries to his face.
“The man proceeded to his bedroom, and when his mother checked on him, she noticed that he was unresponsive. She then contacted relatives for assistance.”
Balram said they received a call for assistance at approximately 12:43 from the man’s relative after he was found unresponsive in his bedroom.
“RUSA Members were dispatched to the residence and on arrival found that he showed no signs of life.”
