18 dead during an alleged CIT heist

SAPS units monitored a group of suspects allegedly planning a CIT heist in Limpopo for several days. On 1 September 2023, they raided an identified location in Makhado.

“As soon as police approached the address, the group of suspects began shooting, and police retaliated. Sixteen males and two females were declared dead at the scene,” the South African Police Service said.

Second raid in Thohoyandou

At another Thohoyandou location, authorities apprehended four suspects. They confiscated ten vehicles, including high-performance ones, and seven automatic rifles.

Policing experts are still examining the area. A senior DPCI officer got injured during the shootout and is now in the hospital.

General Masemola and a team of senior officers visited the crime scene on 01 September. He stated that law enforcement is cracking down on severe and violent crimes nationwide.

Flying squad success in Western Cape

On Tuesday, 29 August Maitland Flying Squad members acted on a tip regarding suspects in a Lingelethu-West business robbery.

They went to Mthawelanga Street in Ilitha Park and conducted a thorough search, resulting in the seizure of a 9mm pistol, a fake firearm, phones, and cash.

Seven men, aged 31 to 35, were apprehended by the police for possessing an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and presumed stolen items.

After being charged, the suspects will be required to appear in Cape Town and Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Courts for their alleged offenses.
