15-year-old learner KILLED in scholar transport collision

This week has been a somber one as at least five learners have lost their lives across the country-two involving scholar transport

Another learners life has been cut short due to an accident involving scholar transport this week.

A 15-year-old learner from Addo in the Eastern Cape has succumbed to his injuries after the minibus taxi he was traveling in collided with a train on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred on the same afternoon, where a grade six learner from Pretoria was killed after falling out of his scholar transport and run over.

The driver of the taxi was declared dead at the scene while the learner was airlifted to Livingston Hospital in Gqeberha. Unfortunetly he succumbed to his injuries hours later.

While 20 other injured learners from Samnkelwe Senior Secondary School were taken to a local hospital.

According the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser, the location of the incident, is a very busy yet dangerous crossing as it is also the only legal entry into Nomathamsanqa Informal Settlement.

The train was transporting manganese at the time of the accident.

The cause of the accident is yet unknown, and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
