Former Le Mans 24-hour race winner Richard Bradley says Max Verstappen has to win in an uncompetitive car to be considered an all-time great.

Two-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen should not considered amongst the all-time sports greats, according to former Le Mans 24 hour race winner Richard Bradley.

Verstappen has won 10 of the 12 races so far this season, and is just a few races away from winning his third F1 title in a row.

The Red Bull driver has won eight races in a row so far and is on course for his ninth.

British driver Bradley believes Verstappen is yet to achieve a race win with a car is in the midfield and until he win a race with a ‘slower car’, he can’t be considered with the best Formula 1 drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Sebastien Vettel.

Bradley not convinced by Verstappen’s dominance

“For me, Max hasn’t proven himself properly in a car which doesn’t have the capability to win yet,’ Bradley said on the On Track GP podcast.

“I’m not talking one which had a possibility to win, I’m talking one which really didn’t have a chance to win,” he said.

Bradley insists that Verstappen is not even as good as Vettel, who pushed Toro Rosso into the top six regularly in his early days.

“But whereas you look at the real greats, Senna, with that 1984 [season] driving the Toleman but then winning in an uncompetitive Lotus when his teammates weren’t on the podiums, then he went into a good car. But even when the McLaren wasn’t good in ’93, he still won races in it.

‘You look at Schumacher. He won the World Championship in that Benetton when his teammates were absolutely nowhere, took Ferrari and was winning races in 1996 when, again, they were nowhere,” he said about Verstappen.
