Finnish Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas is currently in South Africa for a short stay in Cape Town before heading to the United States and the next grand prix in Miami.
Bottas swapped four wheels for two wheels as he hit the gravel roads in the Western Cape, where he encountered rhinos, a tortoise and even a few giraffes.
He also had time for a good old-fashioned South African braai.
Earlier in the week, as reported by The South African website, Bottas shared two pictures on his social media pages of a stunning sunset in the Mother City.
“Hello South Africa,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Bottas, who currently drives for the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber team, experienced car woes during last Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit.
He was forced to retire on lap 20.
Valtteri Bottas has won 10 grand prixs
The 34-year-old has had a disappointing start to the 2024 Formula One season and lies 20th in the drivers’ standings after five races.
He is yet to earn a point this season.
Overall, Valtteri Bottas has 10 grand prix wins to his name, all of which came during his time at Mercedes.
His most recent win came at the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix.
The next stop on the 2024 Formula One calendar is the Miami Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome on Sunday, 5 May.
The race is due to start at 22:00 (SA time).
