Red Bull racing driver Sergio Perez says he struggled to adapt his driving style to the new Red Bull’s development of their car.

The 33-year-old Mexican driver looked set to challenge teammate Max Verstappen for the title earlier this season but has since played second fiddle to the Dutchman. In the first four races of the season, Checo had won two races and was only a point behind Verstappen but poor form and lack of belief saw the Mexican driver lose ground on the championship.

Verstappen now looks unchallenged, going on a record-breaking streak of 10 race wins in a row.

“I think every driver through their careers or through each season, you get some upgrades to the car that adapt easier to your driving style than others,” Perez was quoted on The Mirror.

Checo likely to leave Red Bull by the end of the season, according to sources

“Sometimes you will put a part in it and you will straight away go faster with it. Sometimes you will have to adapt to it.

Perez said the Red Bull upgrades, which were brought after the Baku Grand Prix, suited his teammate more than him.

“It’s something that we are all facing through our times during the season with our upgrades. I haven’t been able to adapt as quickly as I should and I had to change my driving style to adapt to the car more than at the beginning of the season, for example. when things were coming more naturally. But that’s something that most drivers at some point will go through, ” said Perez.
