George Russell believes his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton is the greatest F1 driver of all time.

The 25-year-old British driver also believes that he is quicker than Hamilton at the moment.

During a lie detector test, Russell was asked whether he considered his fellow Brit to be the greatest of all time, and responded with a firm and confident “yes,” which was supported by the lie detector’s approval.

Hamilton, who many regard as the best F1 driver of all time, has won a record seven F1 titles and has already amassed 103 wins.

Russell has shared a seat with him at Mercedes for two seasons now and when he asked if he was faster than Hamilton, he responded, “Now, yes.” Surprisingly, the lie detector test agreed with his statement.

Last year, Russell finished the season above the seven time champions in the driver’s standings and many expected the young Brits to dominate his experienced teammate in the coming years. In the current season, Hamilton has gotten the better of the former WIlliams driver, finishing in the podium four times in 10 races so far.

Just like last year, Mercedes has struggled for pace this season. Teams like Aston Martin and McLaren have improved on their pace and are now competing with the eight-time constructor’s champions.

Russell says his team will be fighting the two teams for the remainder of the season.

“I see no reason why they shouldn’t be up there now,” he said.

“We’ve come from Red Bull Ring, which is a very different circuit to Silverstone. And they were a small step ahead of us on both occasions,” said Russell.

“So I don’t know how they’re found this much performance. It’s been quite surprising. We don’t tend to focus too much on our competitors. We just need to keep focusing on ourselves.”
