Charles Leclerc full of praise for teammate Carlos Sainz

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc says Carlos Sainz won’t find it difficult to find a top seat next year following his win in Australia.

Ferrari’s top driver Charles Leclerc was full of praise for his teammate Carlos Sainz following his victory in last weekend’s Australian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard controlled the race after passing Max Verstappen on lap 3 to secure his third Formula One victory.

Sainz started the season campaign with a fine podium finish in Bahrain before sitting out in Saudi Arabia due to appendicitis and subsequent surgery.

The 29-year-old returned to action just a fortnight later in Melbourne to challenge for pole position and spectacularly take the win.

His teammate Leclerc praised the ‘underrated’ Sainz.

“I think everybody knows Carlos’ worth in the paddock,” said Leclerc.

“He’s one of the highest-rated drivers in the paddock and he’s been extremely strong every time he was in a Formula 1 car. He has showed it multiple times, so I don’t think he’s underrated for that,” said Leclerc.

Leclerc expects Sainz to find a top-seat

“That’s why I’ve said many times that I’m not too worried about his future, because I’m sure that many, many Team Principals are… he doesn’t say it, but for sure they are speaking with him! And I’m sure he will have many opportunities. He’ll just have to make the best choice for his career.”

Sainz and Leclerc are in their last season as teammates with Ferrari opting not to renew the Spaniard’s contract.

Ferrari has signed seven-time F1 champions Lewis Hamilton to the team.

Like Leclerc, McLaren’s Lando Norris was another driver to appreciate Sainz’s driving skills
