The second Kia offering from India will soon be in South Africa, and early signs are that this baby crossover will be attracting the attention of young buyers looking for the styling and excitement that is a trademark of the Korean manufacturer.

Although few details have emerged about the specifications of the Sonet derivative that will be launched locally, it has been confirmed that the car will join its stablemate the Seltos in local showrooms.

And like its Seltos sibling, the Sonet will also be build in India where the concept model was revealed at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year.

Aimed at young, tech-savvy buyers

Details about engine displacements, specifications and price still have to be released by Kia South Africa. What is certain, says Kia, is that the vehicle will be a contender with its fresh exterior design sure to “inject new dynamism into the compact SUV segment” and will appeal to young, tech-savvy buyers.

Stand-out features will be the vehicle’s “tiger-nose” grille, with three-dimensional “stepwell” geometric grille mesh that will echo the car’s Indian origins.

‘Aggressive stance’

Stressing the Indian connection, will be colours and materials that enhance the car’s aggressive stance, according Kia Motors Corporation senior vice-president and Kia Design Centre head Karim Habib.
