We’ve got a special hybrid hypercar drag race that will set your revs jumping high. The Ferrari SF90, the Italian carmaker’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, meets the Porsche 918 Spyder.

If you’re wondering about the name, the SF90 references the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari (their competition department).

A PETROLHEADS DREAM: HYBRID HYPERCAR DRAG RACE

The motoring YouTube channel Carwow brought these two cars together to see which is fastest, and despite them not being new cars it still makes for fascinating viewing.

WHAT DO THESE TWO PERFORMANCE CARS HAVE ON PAPER?

The Italian stallion sports a 4.0-litre V8 engine obtained 580kW with help from a turbo. Two of the three electric motors sit on the front axle and the final on the rear axle. The total power output is a mammoth 735kW.

The SF90 has an electric range of 25km on a full charge and it’ll reach 100km/h from standstill in only 2.5 seconds.

An interesting fact is that the strange eight-speed gearbox didn’t have a reverse gear.

The Porsche 918 Spyder was produced from 2015 and is powered by a 4.5-litre V8 engine. It uses two electric motors and in conjunction with the petrol motor makes 652kW. The convertible accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds.
