Drag race: Tesla Model 3 vs BYD Seal…which EV is quicker?

The future of motoring is electric cars, that’s for certain. In the latest instalment of our drag race videos the team at United Kingdom motoring publication Carwow pits the Build Your Dream Seal against the Tesla Model 3 Long Range.

The swiftness of which these electric cars accelerate off the line is mightily impressive.

THE DRAG RACE SEES CARS FROM THE UNITED STATES TAKE ON A CHINESE ELECTRIC CAR

According to Top Gear UK, the BYD Seal has a combined range of 569km and the BYD Seal’s battery has a total capacity of 82.5 kWh.. It can accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds. The Chinese electric car is produced in Changzhou, Jiangsu.

Top Gear UK goes onto mention that the Chinese carmaker “cites the Tesla Model 3 as a key rival too, and that feels more like the car they had in mind when the Seal was developed.”

In comparison to the BYD, the United States electric car from Tesla has a range of 535km and can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds which will help it in a drag race.

Carwow said: “So let’s see whether this all-new Chinese EV can take down the Tesla. Under the skin, you’ll find two electric motors that provide 395kW and 670Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 2200kg.”

“Then we come to the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. It also comes with dual electric motors, and these should provide you with 365kW and 490Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels, and it’s a fair bit lighter than the BYD, weighing in at 1840kg,” Carwow said of the Tesla that took part in the drag race.
