The Tesla Cybertruck has been one of the most talked about new cars since it was shown four years ago, in 2023 the motoring media got their hands on early production models. UK publication Carwow has put Tesla’s latest car up against a Lamborghini Urus in a drag race.

The Cybertruck, like all Teslas, uses electric motors. The Lamborghini is powered by a Volkswagen Group sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine.

A DRAG RACE FOR THE AGES – SILENCE VS A V8 ROAR

Let’s look at the numbers linked to both vehicles. The Cybertruck uses three electric motors sending power to all four wheels a massive 630kW and 930Nm while in its most extreme “Beast Mode”.

The US carmaker quotes an outrageous zero to 100km/h claimed time of 2.6 seconds. Oh yes, the Cybertruck has enough grunt to two 4988kg. The electric weighs over 3000kg and has a top speed of around 210km/h.

The Lamborghini uses a traditional petrol engine and is 900kg lighter than the Tesla at 2200kg. Its forced induction engine produces 484kW and 850Nm.

Like the Tesla power is sent to all four wheels and it uses an eight-speed torque converter gearbox. The high-revving V8 engine in the Italian car translates into a higher top speed of 305km/h.

THREE VERSIONS OF THE CYBERTRUCK WILL BECOME AVAILABLE

According to Reuters, pricing for the Cybertruck will begin at $60 990 or around R1.3 million. The vehicle will not be a high-volume model like the brand’s other models.

The South African-born entrepreneur said his carmaker would likely hit peak production of the Cybertruck of around 250 000 a year in 2025.

Customers in the United States will start receiving their new models in early January after placing their orders and paying $100 deposit more than two years ago.
