The South African’s motoring journalist Sean Parker recalls a crazy police car chase that was caught on camera in Cape Town, South Africa.

There’s something about a police car chase that fits right into the zeitgeist. It contains all the elements that captures viewers attention and has the potential to go viral.
Around two years ago, a dash-cam clip recorded from a private security vehicle captured the high-speed chase through the streets of Wetton and Ottery in Cape Town.

The footage of this particular chase between a police vehicle (BMW 1 Series) and two private security vehicles in pursuit of a hijacked Toyota Fortuner gave the impression of being part of the police car chase.
The commentary from the security guards is fascinating to listen to as they try to keep pace with the police and the Fortuner. According to the Citizen the white SUV was hijacked on Tuesday 4, August 2021.

Two days after the Fortuner was hijacked, the alarm was raised when the SUV’s tracker was activated. The police car chase began in Grassy Park, and then continued to the suburbs of Wetton and Ottery.
The assailants were finally brought to a halt in the Ottery Hypermarket complex after the police fired several shots at the Fortuner’s tyres.
