After the news broke this week (Wednesday 12 July) that the AARTO Act was upheld by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in the Constitutional Court, we decided to compile a series of lists of new AARTO penalties.

There are currently 2 659 offences listed on the AARTO website. You can find a full list including their fines and associated demerit points below:
As a reminder, under the new AARTO penalties, motorists may only receive 15 demerit points on their license before suspension. You can be suspended twice before your driving license is taken away permanently. Each suspension means having to retake a driver’s/learner’s qualification test.

Failing to yield to pedestrian at crossing | R500 | 1 |
Overtaking stationary vehicle at pedestrian crossing | R500 | 1 |

Wilful obstruction of traffic flow | R750 | 2 |
