Every week, we bring you the PowerBall and Lotto results as soon as they become available, but what about actually playing the lottery in South Africa?

There are a few ways you can play the South African lottery. The most obvious being by simply finding a retailer who sells tickets. There are several outlets across the country that offer this service – look out for the National Lottery logo.

FNB’s Lotto service

If you bank with FNB you can play via online banking or through the FNB banking app.

Login to Online Banking using your username and password. If you are using online banking on your computer, click the Buy Tab, click the Lotto subtab and “Play Now”.

If you are using the app, select the dropdown that appears next to “accounts” and tap on “Lotto”. Select Lotto from the options and decide if you want to select the numbers yourself or play the QuickPick option.

Other online options for playing Lotto in South Africa

There are a number of other online services that offer you the option of playing Lotto from the palm of your hand. However, before you play, make sure that these services are legit. When do lottery ticket sales close?

If you are buying your tickets from an existing Lottery outlet, they close at 20:30 on the day of a draw.

What does a Lotto ticket cost?

  • A single LOTTO play will cost you R5.00 vat incl. A single cost of LOTTO PLUS 1 will be R2.50 and a single cost of LOTTO PLUS 2 will be R2.50 vat incl.
  • But be aware if you use any of the online services, there might be an additional charge. Always check the terms and conditions.
