The Chief of the World Health Organisation, Pedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has slammed the media’s coverage of the Ukrainian war. According to Ghebreyesus, the world is paying an unfair amount of attention to Ukraine while other global crises basically being ignored.

Many people have agreed with the WHO boss while others have slammed his comments as unreasonable and unfounded.

WHO boss slams the world’s interest in Ukraine

Pedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has shared his concern over the world’s attention on Ukraine and the war that was started by Russia in February this year.

According to him, people across the world have focused their attention on Ukraine while some parts of the world that are struggling and have been in dire conditions are ignored.

Ghebreyesus Says that coverage of the Ukrainian war has become somewhat racist as other crises receive a ‘fraction’ of the attention that the Ukrainians are getting, the Daily Mail reports.

Unequal treatment of human races

“I need to be blunt and honest that the world is not treating the human race the same way.”

“Some are more equal than others. And when I say this, it pains me. Because I see it. Very difficult to accept but it’s happening.”

Speaking about the situation in Ethiopia, his country of birth, he said that the “health of millions is under threat”.

“Thousands have been killed including civilians and millions are in need of vital aid, he said, with stories of extrajudicial killings and sexual violence.

“As we speak, people are dying of starvation”.

“This is one of the longest and worst sieges by both Eritrean and Ethiopian forces in modern history”

He then slammed the media for not covering this as extensively as they are covering the Ukrainian war while adding that it is indeed important, but there are other countries that also need attention.

“I don’t even know if that was taken seriously by the media,’ he said. While adding that he “hopes the world comes back to its senses and treats all human life equally.”
