It can be quite challenging to find the most suitable video and photo editing apps for both Android and iOS device users. This is because a large number are designed for specific operating systems.

You can find many programmes with unique functionality, free, as well with as a lot of simple paid features.

The following apps are free to use but also have paid subscriptions for extra features:

1. Canva

Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams founded the company in January 2012. According to Wikipedia, during its first year, Canva had more than 750 000 users.

The application is a graphic design platform that allows users to create social media graphics, presentations, posters and other visual content.

Canva integrates millions of images, fonts, templates and illustrations.

Those who use the app can choose from many professional designed templates, edit the designs and upload their own photos through a drag-and-drop interface.

“Canva is intuitive to use, and its social media templates are particularly impressive,” says reviewer Cat Ellis from TechRadar website.

 She goes on: “But it’s probably a better choice for small businesses that want to stand out from the crowd than individuals looking for a photo editor”.

The App is rated 4.7 stars on Google Play and 4.8 stars on App Store.

2. PicsArt

Armenian programers Hovhannes Avoyan and Artavazd Mehrabyan founded this application.

They launched PicsArt on Android devices in 2009 and released it four years later on iOS devices. According to Wikipedia, users downloaded the app 35 million times during its first year.

PicsArt has a video and image editor, collage maker, drawing application and a social network.

The PicsArt social network allows users to share their images with the PicsArt community and on other networks like Facebook and Instagram.

“It’s the one app that lets you be truly creative with its almost limitless features,” says its website. “And it’s starting a movement to help the people ‘go beyond the filter’ and make awesome pictures.”

The App is rated 4.3 stars on Google Play and 4.6 stars on App Store.

3. Inshot

The InShot application is an all-in-one visual content editor which allows you to create videos, edit photos and create image collages.

The app is mostly known for its video features which include being able to trim clips, alter the speed of your footage, add filters, music, and text.

In addition you can flip and rotate footage which is a handy feature that many other apps don’t have.

“Overall, InShot is a powerful photo and video editing app,” said reviewer Lindsay Pietroluongo in Design on Elegant Themes website.

 “It has so many built-in features that you won’t need to use any other apps other than the ones to actually shoot the content you’re going to edit.”
