Mzansi has had light-hearted fun on Twitter roasting Finance Minister Tito Mboweni’s roast chicken cooking skills.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni tweeted a picture of roast chicken in the oven as he cooked it over the weekend. It flew on Twitter and it did not take long before social media started to crack jokes about his kitchen skills.

Without even giving him any time to recover after attacking his shoes on Twitter, Mzansi is at it again.

Mboweni often enjoys showing off his cooking skills, although some South Africans feel the minister should be staying away from the kitchen.

Tito Mboweni’s chicken skills

About two weeks ago Mboweni tweeted pictures of another chicken dish he made and South Africans did not find it very appetising.

However, the Minister remains unbothered by the jokes and still posts his cooking adventures with enthusiasm.

Last month, he also posted a thread of a recipe and Twitter had no chill then either. He also made a boerewors stew and the reaction of many was that the minister needs a wife.

On Saturday, the minister tweeted a thread of his roast chicken from the preparation through to the finished dish. He also emphasised his famous use of extra garlic.

As we know, though, South Africans and Twitter are a lethal combination, and no one is safe, not even the Minister of Finance. Here are a few reactions to his garlic roast chicken:

Celebrities join the Tito Mboweni chicken run

South African celebrities did not hold back and Somizi, for one, invited Mboweni over for some of his roast chicken. Fans joked about Somizi having him on his cooking show to share a few tips.

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi also joined in on the trend and showed off the perfectly roasted chicken he made for his family. He even mentioned Mboweni in his tweet.

Several other South Africans hopped into their kitchens to give the minister a few tips. In Mboweni’s defence though, he thought the end result was not too bad.

Even so, not everyone’s tweets were fun and games. There were also comments that the minister posts more about food and his personal life than informing the country about the economy.

Others, however, admired his authenticity, pointing out that he used an old peanut-butter jar as a container.
