South African social media users have been left with their jaws on the floor after a popular Twitter account shared a photo of King Mswati of Swaziland’s mother Queen Ntfombi Tfwala wearing a Jacob & Co Astronomia Solar Baguette watch that allegedly costs around R14 million. The price of the watch left a bitter taste in many mouths as Tweeps discussed the flaunting of wealth while so many in the world — and in Swaziland — are impoverished.

Many have slammed African leaders who rarely shy away from showing off their wealth despite the struggles of the people they are leading.

The post was captioned:

What do social media users make of it?

The post received a number of comments from people who seemingly despise leaders who splash money on luxury. Take a look at some of their comments:

“It’s part of Africa’s culture. Leaders show the middle finger to citizens,” one person wrote while another added:

“The psychology of African leaders need to be studied. Like how are they okay with spending crazy money on themselves yet people on the ground are suffering.”
