Somizi’s acting career

Early days

Somizi began in the late eighties when the actor, 13 years old at the time, landed a role in a film titled Scavengers. He rose to fame five years later for his portrayal of Fire in Sarafina.

The Idols judge – who also crafted a career as radio and TV presenter, choreographer, recording artist, MC, and author of a cookbook – went on to star as Juice in the series African Skies.

He portrayed Henry in the TV movie The Line before landing a role in Cry, The Beloved Country in 1995, followed by a part in Tarzan: The Epic Adventure TV series in 1996. In 2020, Somizi also starred in Black Tax.

Social media legacy

In other news, Somgaga recently tipped over the 4-million follower mark on Instagram, saying that’s “it’s been an amazing journey so far”.

He thanked his followers for the “love, tears, support, laughter, and more”. The caption was accompanied by a photo of a champagne bottle with the words ‘Somizi 4 million followers’ printed across.

“Here’s to a better tomorrow. Now to prove that you’re here…..how about u each give me R1. I need a shelter in Clifton Cape Town so that would cover the 10% deposit lol”.
