Heading into the Easter holidays, we’ve been asked through our WhatsApp line, if beneficiaries receive double SASSA grants following a successful appeal. Firstly, you need to confirm your SASSA SRD status by following the link HERE and enter the pertinent details of your profile.
According to SRD Grant, if your application is rejected, you do have the right to appeal and provide corroborating evidence. Should your appeal be successful, you are entitled to double SASSA grants, or all the months’ worth of money you were denied.
Before we run through the appeal process, this is a reminder that the R20 increase pushing the SRD grant to R370 only takes effect at the end of April 2024. The next SASSA SRD payment run will start from Monday 25 March to Friday 29 March (Good Friday). Nevertheless, if you’ve been rejected and you wish to appeal the decision to receive double SASSA grants, here’s what you need to do:
Frustratingly, it’s been revealed that more than half of SASSA SRD grant applicants are denied access. Roughly 8.5-million people receive grants each month, while more than 16 million apply. Social justice advocates believe this is because the South African Social Security Agency cannot afford to pay everyone with its dwindling budget. What this means is you must appeal if you’re ever denied a SASSA SRD grant. Here’s how:
Moreover, the agency is inundated with grant applications and appeals, so give them time to process your appeal. This can take up to 90 days, or three months. After submitting your appeal, make sure to keep any correspondence from SASSA about your appeal.
After 90 days, if you don’t receive a response, you must by all means follow up with SASSA to inquire about the status of your appeal. Use any reference numbers provided during the appeal submission to make tracking easier.
By law, SASSA has to provide you with a response to your appeal, stating its findings. If your appeal is successful, you will be notified about the next steps to receive your double SASSA grants. If unsuccessful, you will receive reasons for the decision, too.
