Popular for discussing celebrity gossip on SABC3 lifestyle show Trending SA, TV presenter, actress and radio personality Pabi Moloi has now become a hot topic of social media debate herself.

The 36-year-old sent out a tweet two days after she was arrested for drunk driving in Johannesburg. Moloi admitted that she had some drinks and decided to drive herself home instead of requesting a taxi or driving with a sober friend or acquaintance.

Pabi Moloi: ‘I am so so sorry’

She apologised for her actions, which she said she took full responsibility for.

“I’m truly sorry. I’m truly gutted about this. I had an incident this week that I want to step up and take responsibility for.

“I had drinks and decided to drive myself home on a Thursday night. It was a bad decision for which I take full responsibility. I was subsequently arrested for drinking and driving. I will submit myself to the process of the law. I understand the gravity of the potential damage I could have done and I am so so sorry,” she wrote.

Some kind words

First to show support towards Moloi, was former Metro FM presenter Masechaba Ndlovu who tweeted her, saying “You’re a Queen”.

Another twitter user empathised with the former child star and encouraged her to forgive herself because mistakes happen.

And not-so-kind words

However, the rest of the Twittersphere was not so kind and understanding.  One Twitter user admonished Moloi and tweeted that she was only apologising because she got caught.

Long list of celebs caught under the influence

The award-winning presenter joins a long list of local celebrities who have been caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Muvhango actress Khanya Mkangisa was arrested by metro police after a night out partying with friends in May 2019.

The former YoTV presenter could be seen slurring and cheekily speaking to traffic officers who filmed her arrest. After a video of the incident went viral, Mkangisa issued an apology on radio, adding that she felt especially targeted because she was famous.

Sundowners soccer player and Bafana Bafana midfielder Andile Jali was also apprehended for driving intoxicated in 2019. He was stopped at a roadblock in Hatfield, Pretoria, and was arrested shortly thereafter.

DJ-turned-businessman Sbu Leope was caught by cops on 2 May 2015. He appeared at the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court and was released on R1 500 bail. Other stars who have been charged for driving while under the influence, include actor Warren Masemola and actress Phindile Gwala.
