Now au fait with the top international opera stages and theatres, including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Covent Garden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and many others, Pretty Yende was not sure what opera was until she was 16-years-old.

Pretty was sitting at home watching TV with her parents when an advert came on with a sound that Pretty says was ‘supernatural’. When she found out from her teacher that it was opera, her life path was determined.

Fifteen years after she saw the advert, Pretty is now one of opera’s fastest rising stars.

The soprano, who has just released her debut album, was first noticed internationally in 2010 when she became the first artist in the history of the Belvedere Competition to win First Prize in every category.

The 31-year-old star’s career has taken off at record speed – Pretty says, “My great journey continues…”

Watch a snippet of her journey thus far; a journey we have no doubt will be a very long and very successful one.
