South Africans are proud to call Amapiano the country’s dominant music genre. The deep basslines, subtle piano chords, and social commentary in the vocals are just irresistible.

To celebrate what has been the rebirth of the Kwaito music genre, here is our new daily feature called Amapiano Song of the Day.

Today’s song is a creation that many fans believe was the breakthrough hit that took over radio plays in 2019.

The song titled “Shesha” came out to the streets in 2019 before bulldozing the charts and Mzansi’s mainstream music during the devasting 2020 Covid lockdown.

The track was created by the genre’s living legends from Soweto: De Mthuda, who is the producer with the real name of Mthuthuzeli Khoza, and Njelic, the vocalist, known as Tshwarelo Motlhako to his school peers.

Hearing “Shesha,” it sounds like a basic party song, but on a closer listen, you realise it is an endearing love song.

Njelic, en route to his girlfriend’s house, makes a call to her to say she should urgently beg her to take a bath or shower (shesha geza) so she could come along with his friends to a party.
