But err.. ok…

Miss South Africa’s dresses for the upcoming Miss World pageant have been revealed and Twitter is not convinced.

The official Miss South Africa account posted a snap of the outfit to Twitter on Monday.

It was designed by Matome Seshoka of Antherline Designs. According to IOL, Seshoka has been described “the master connoisseur of African couture”.

Seshoka said of the outfit:

“My team and I were inspired by Ndebele people who have an extraordinary culture and authenticity. They are the most colourful tribe and truly South African. We fused this with a bit of Zulu culture to give the national costume a modern and young feel. The colours of our national flag give it a proudly South African look. We included a cape because this represents power and strength and is usually worn by Zulu queens.”

Here’s Miss SA’s Miss World outfit…

The reaction to the outfit was, shall we say, not entirely positive.

It looks far better sitting down… but eerrr.. ja.

Who is Ade van Heerden?

She is Miss SA 2017 runner-up and will be representing South Africa at the Miss World pageant.

Van Heerden is a qualified doctor, second lieutenant in the South African Military Health Services and comes from the Western Cape.

She won national colours in rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 13 and was a gold medal winner at the All African Championships. She will be doing a ribbon dance as part of the talent section at the Miss World pageant.

Miss South Africa 2017, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters will be competing in the same month in the Miss Universe contest. Since no other universes actually take place, we’re not quite sure what the difference is, but anyway.

This is the other outfit Ade van Heerden will be wearing at Miss World
