A Zimbabwean man has been left with his hands in his head after falling victim to a lotto scam.

According to an IOL article the Beitridge resident received an sms informing him that he had won a £1 million lotto prize.

All he had to do was send $2000 (around R40 000) via the Western Union in order to receive his prize money.

Because he had lost part of his home during Operation Restore Order (Murambatsvina), he was desperate to provide his family with a bigger better home.

And so he headed off to the Western Union to deposit the money which he had loaned and used his house as collateral.

Alarm bells are ringing

Things became fishy for the Zim man when he was asked to deposit an additional $1000. After taking the matter to the police, he was informed that it was a scam.

He was subsequently unable to pay back the loan and lost his home as a result.

Meanwhile, his neighbours are trying to raise money in order for his family to get the house back. He has also since warned others against falling victim to these scams.
