A South African gospel musician, Kholeka Dubula has come under fire online after sharing her thoughts about Life Orientation as a subject in schools. According to the singer, the subject is a waste of time and should be replaced with a subject more valuable to children.

The post was quickly inundated with comments from social media users who begged to differ. According to them, LO teaches children important stuff about rape, sex and other life skills.

SA singer slammed for tweet about LO as a subject

The subject Life Orientation focuses on equipping students with all the necessary information they need to navigate their lives.

The aim of the subject is to “address skills, knowledge and values for the values for the personal, social, intellectual, emotional and physical growth of learners” per a Caps123.com site.

Gospel singer Kholeka Dubula, however, does not think it is a useful subject for learners. Heading to Twitter, Kholeka wrote how the subject is a “waste of time”.

After seeing the tweet, locals took to the comment section in numbers to set her straight.

According to them, the subject has helped many learners understand rape and consent and even sex and protecting themselves from predators and unwanted pregnancies.

They called her out for bashing the subject which has proven useful to many youngsters.

“LO is easy to pass but calling it useless is just being grossly misinformed. Where do you think the kiddies learn about STDs & contraceptives? The conversation should be broadening the syllabus to include other things not cancelling the subject. Haiboh Kholeka,” one person wrote while another added:

“We live in a country with high child abuse rate, and unfortunately, some parents don’t teach their children about sex, so Life Orientation is important because they get to learn about those things.”
