A viral TikTok challenge – where parents are asking their kids to have their back in a fake fist fight – is attracting criticism for “promoting violence and bullying”.

The challenge has taken over social media and has seen a wide range of reactions from children.

TIKTOK CHALLENGE: PARENTS TELL KIDS TO HELP THEM FIGHT

The TikTok challenge starts off with parents filming themselves sneaking up on their unsuspecting children.

Parents then explain that they need help to physically fight another adult and their child – which their child needs to “beat up”.

The children have had mixed reactions to the news – many seem keen and even practise their best fighting skills ahead of the pretend fight.  Others, express their concern about getting hurt, and some even cry out of sheer fear.

In a local version of the TikTok challenge which has over 2 million views, a social media influencer confronts her young daughter to help her “fight”.

After explaining that she needs to help her “fight that lady from next door and her child”, the woman tells her daughter: “I need you to beat that baby girl up”.

The puzzled young girl answers: “Yes, I understand” and proceeds to put on her shoes. Confusion turns into excitement and the young girl is seen showing off a few karate moves in preparation for the “fight”.

CONCERN OVER MESSAGE

Whilst many of the TikTok videos of the fight challenge have been praised for their surprise reactions from children, others are not finding it funny.

In fact, many tweeps are concerned about what kind of message the challenge is promoting.

Here’s what tweeps had to say about the TikTok challenge:

@Kwame2u: “I get this is a challenge but this is promoting the idea of violence”

@aswin_Chikondi: “What level of clout was sought here? Teaching your kid that it’s fine to fight”

@TanyaRo27916707: “Sies, joke or not, why teach kids to beat up others? Then we ask why children are bullies”

@iam__temmyy: “I’m sorry, this is cringy.  Make sure she understands that it was just a joke afterward; else, she might actually go ahead with it later”

@ABC7Jory: “I find the subject of kids fighting pretty upsetting”

@ScottLakers: “This what we teaching kids? Teach them to be a lady, independent, read and write”
