Influencers are often the face of a brand but these five South Africans show that you can take over that space yourself.
Each has transitioned from collaborating with numerous brands to creating their very own brands.
Natural Hair enthusiast and South African YouTuber Yolenda Jawe built her influence through tips and tricks on her Yolz YouTube channel.
Yolz collaborates with and creates content for hair-care brands. She later expanded to vlogging and makeup content.
Now she has branched out to the beauty industry by launching her own skin-care range of face masks, Yolz Beauty.
Yolz Beauty has three bamboo sheet masks which meet different needs, such as hydrating and skin brightening.
And her Instagram feed @yolzbeauty, just like her personal page, gained a lot of traction in just a matter of days.
Mbali Sebapu’s luxurious-looking lifestyle and sense of style drew followers to her Instagram account, @Gorgeous_Mbali.
So of course it was not long before brands wanted to collaborate with her.
Gaining more followers daily, Mbali bet on herself and created her own makeup range, Hermosa Flor cosmetics.
To date, Hermosa has had three palette launches and each batch sold out on the first day of sales. Now the company will launch a skin-care range.
Her strong relationship with her followers has been a key part of her success.
Youtuber Thandi Gama has grown her beauty brand over the years and now has over 40 000 YouTube subscribers.
That’s because she has drawn in her audience and brands through her crisp quality content as an influencer.
Since then, Thandi also has launched her own beauty brand of eyelashes, Lash Me Baby. This is growing on Instagram as @lashmebaby_sa.
Former air hostess turned fashion and lifestyle influencer Mbali Mkhize recently launched her jewellery line. This new business, Bali Buys, is a collection of bracelets.
Many followers and fellow influencers showed tremendous support in buying the jewellery on the day it dropped.
Mkhize has since branched out into YouTube to hone her personal brand. Her channel gained over a thousand subscribers in its first few weeks on YouTube.
Fitness and health fanatic Rushda Moosajee is famous for her nutrition and weight-loss programmes for moms. RushTush is her brand for health and fitness, including a workout app available on IOS.
Since then, Moosajee has expanded her brand by including beauty products such as lipsticks, detox teas and lounge-wear clothing. And, naturally, these are specifically designed for boss moms.
