It turns out George Lebese is having a great end to his year as just after confirming his move to US soccer team Colorado Springs Switchback FC, he tied the knot with his girlfriend of more than a year on Saturday 28 December in two colourful traditional wedding ceremonies, in Pretoria.

Going traditional twice…

Lebese and Nkosi hosted both a Sotho and Swati wedding ceremony. Images of their wedding posted on social media showed fellow soccer stars Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, accompanied by his heavily pregnant wife, Sphelele Makhunga, and Amazulu forward Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Say it in Sotho and Swati

The first wedding ceremony saw Lebese and Nkosi decked out in black-and red Swati outfits while the second saw them don white-and-purple Sotho matching attire which represents Lebese’s tribe and is a symbol of welcome to the new bride.

Honeymoon in Dubai

Lebese and Nkosi have mainly kept their relationship private, only sharing a few snaps on their Instagram accounts. They have, however, let the public in on their honeymoon destination which is in Dubai.

Business partners and scoring with Switchbacks

The couple are also business partners with Lebese signed to Nkosi’s sports brand management company which is based in Sandton.

The 30-year-old winger has put a sweet end to the year after he spent the better part of 2019 on the benches at his former team, Mamelodi Sundowns. He was released from his Sundowns contract at the end of the transfer window in November before announcing his international move to Switchbacks FC.

Speaking to sports presenter Robert Marawa about his plans previously, Lebese said he had kept up his training schedule and was eating healthily in anticipation of signing a new deal.

He didn’t have to wait too long as less than a month later a statement was released confirming his move.

“George is a player that we are incredibly excited about. He is in need of a fresh opportunity after many years of success in the South African Premier League. We look forward to supporting him and helping get his confidence back,” said Switchbacks FC in a statement.
