A South African man has given his partner the Lerato Kganyago treatment after he hired the FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Johannesburg for a romantic proposal.

In clips posted on social media, the man displayed his opulent display of wealth – and affection.

In a scene that looked like something out of Lerato Kganyago’s Instagram feed, a woman was seen being serenaded by her fiancé inside the grounds of the FNB Stadium.

The woman – whose name is Ntombifuthi Sibeko – was given the royal treatment with a VIP dinner for two on the pitch.

The table and floor were laden with red rose petals and candles and positioned under an arch in the shape of a heart.

A jazz band played in the background while a photographer and videographer captured the moment.

The man, wearing traditional Zulu attire, then got down on his knee to propose to his partner.

“Will you marry me, Ntombi?” flashes a sign over the couple.

She captioned the clip: “It can only be my Sukude to pull off something like this. A whole stadium for just two of us”.

In the comment section, South Africans were shocked at the opulent display of wealth.

@amandakhosi: “It’s giving Lerato Kganyago”

@tsietsi: “So he paid R1,5 million to book the whole stadium?”

@trudymonakedi: “Who books an entire stadium in this economy?”

According to Stadium Management, the FNB Stadium, previously known as Soccer City, has a 90,000 capacity. It is South Africa.’s largest stadium.

It is the location of the late Nelson Mandela’s first address after his release from prison in 1990.

The stadium cost R3,3 billion to reconstruct for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Since then, it has been used for home soccer games by the Premier League club Kaizer Chiefs. The venue has also been used for various music concerts, including the upcoming Calabash music festival featuring Robbie Williams, Green Day, and The Offspring. It also hosts multiple international rugby matches.

In 2017, South African muso Cassper Nyovest became the first local artist to fill up the venue with his sold-out concert. According to IOL, the venue cost R15 million to hire for the event.

In 2021, Lerato Kganyago’s husband, Thami Ndlala, booked the entire FNB Stadium for a Valentine’s Day surprise.

According to Sunday World, their romantic date included a meal cooked by a private chef and a performance by Zonke Dikana.

Take a look at the grand gesture…
