A limited quantity of Yeezy Foam Runners – created by rapper Kanye West – have been quickly bought up by South Africans on Friday morning.
The distinctive shoe – made from “environmentally friendly algae” – has sneaker lovers queuing in the early hours of Friday morning.
But many were sorely disappointed after leaving without a pair of celebrity shoes.

YEEZY FOAM RUNNERS SELL OUT IMMEDIATELY
On Friday morning (26 August), sneaker retailers Shelflife went live with their long-awaited sale of Yeezy Foam Runners in the colour sand.
Retailing for an introductory price of R1999, the sale of the shoes attracted hundreds of buyers at their Cape Town and Johannesburg branches.
But instead of a “first come, first serve” concept, the stores did live in-store raffles to sell the shoes.
And the lucky few who landed their hands on a pair were left beaming with their pricey purchase.
WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?
Like fellow formidable shoe brand Crocs, you either love or hate Yeezy Foam Runners.
And it’s not just the Kanye West association – fans claim the shoe is both “comfortable and practical”.
They’re also environmentally friendly too.
According to Shelflife, Yeezy Foam Runners will “usher in a new box construction that requires less material, which leads to less cardboard material waste”.
But not everyone is hung-up on the buzz around the brand.
