On their social media accounts, the Springboks revealed the new Nike designs for the Rugby Championships. The national team inked a six-year deal with Nike after their contract with Asics ended in 2022.

 The new kit features a home and away jersey. The home jersey features the typical gold and green colours.

It said in a statement: “The classic ‘green and gold’ jersey has been reimagined to include a traditional collar with the underside of the collar giving a nod to the South African flag. As an acknowledgment of the team’s spirit, the phrase “Stronger Forever” is inscribed on the inside collar.”

“The bold new alternative jersey pays homage to the local culture through the patterned print, and the colourway was inspired by and celebrates the hues of the local nature,” added the statement

SOUTH AFRICAN RUGBY FANS ARE ANNOYED

While many South Africans were impressed at the new Nike designs, they were far from happy about the prices.

Here’s what Twitter users had to say:

@nikhilsewdass: “I’m sorry but R1400 for a rugby jersey is ridiculous. Someone who earns a minimum wage will have to work 56 hours to just afford it. Only a small percentage of South Africans can afford this.”

@hungerbok_al: “R1399 for a jersey? Are you CRAZY? Rugby for the people, hey?

@collinsgrant: “Too expensive”

@beetle_1946: “Show me the replicas from a corner shop, please.”

@icjmcmullen: “Goodness gracious. Purchase a Springboks jersey or utility bill for the month.”
