Kaizer Chiefs fans are waiting with bated breath to see their team’s official 2023 kit, courtesy of new sponsor Kappa.

And whetting their appetite is Amakhosi’s social media pages which have teased their first glimpse of the soccer garments.

This month, sports giant Nike ended their affiliation with the Soweto Giants after over two decades. From July, Kappa will take over the reins with a  completely new look.

KAIZER CHIEFS X KAPPA KIT TEASER

In a Twitter post, the official Kaizer Chiefs account shared a look at a few players wearing the team’s official Kappa tracksuit.

The account captioned the pics: “Fitness tests at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena.”

The striking tracksuits are navy in colour and boast the team’s bold emblem in yellow and black. In one pic, fans got a glimpse of the soccer jersey, which featured a unique design.

And fans were clearly impressed by the teaser.

@Sheltonlerutla: “If the tracksuit is like this, imagine the kit.”

@Valdo_Nyavane: “This is dope. The lines on the T-shirt worn by Ngcobo and on the sleeves of the jacket.”

@LOZAAH: “Kappa is fire! When can we buy it?”

THE END OF AN ERA

Kaizer Chiefs finished off the PSL season on 20 May 2023 with a farewell to their kit sponsors of the last two decades: Nike.

The boys in black and yellow finished off on the Dstv Premiership log in the fifth position.

Last year, Amakhosi announced that they had signed a five-year contract with Kappa, which would come into effect in mid-2023.

Kaizer Chiefs were sponsored by the US brand Nike from 2000 – 2022. During the years 1996 – 1999, the team’s kits were sponsored by rivals Reebok.

But before Nike or Reebok were in the picture, Kappa sponsored Amakhosi’s kits from 1989 -1996.  Kappa also sponsored the national team Bafana Bafana’s kit for several years.

Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung said in a statement: “We are excited to team up with Kappa once again, a brand with which we set new records and established itself as trendsetters in African football in the early 1990s.”

Kappa South Africa CEO Michael Joseph added that the brand was confident it would restore the team’s glory days, as previously experienced.

He added: “Kappa, together with Kaizer Chiefs, are going to reinstall the romance of the 1990s and deliver something extraordinary to these fans.”
