The hashtag “DenylikeJZ” has become somewhat of a competition among South African Twitter users. And for what? you ask. Well, to give their best interpretation, via GIFs and memes, of former president Jacob Zuma denying any sort of allegation, of course.

The hashtag began to trend on Twitter on Thursday 6 February, not too long after two things took place: State prosecutor Billy Downer issued a warrant of arrest for JZ to appear in court and Zuma himself, allegedly accused one of his wives of stealing his SIM cards.

According to sundayworld.co.za, Zuma allegedly barred one of his wives, Thobeka Madiba, from his Nkandla compound about three weeks ago after accusing her of taking his SIM cards without his permission.

Zuma dodges court with sick note

According to Downer, Msholozi is committing a felony by dodging the proceedings. It’s the third major legal event he’s missed in the last four months by citing illness after he allegedly failed to supply proof of his ailments to the court beforehand. His mystery sickness has also kept him away from the State Capture Inquiry.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has asked the court to suspend any potential arrest for 14 days, giving Ubaba two weeks to prove he’s telling the truth. If the NPA is satisfied with the evidence regarding his medical condition, they will not execute the warrant.

‘DenyLikeJZ’ hashtag entertains Twitter

After a series of court dodging by Zuma — and just dodging in general over the years — many South Africans seems to have learnt how to predict his next move and supply a pretty adequate impersonation of his contradictions.

It only took one Twitter user to discuss Zuma’s excuses and from that moment on, the “DenyLikeJZ” hashtag was born.

Twitter users began stringing together tweets that totally contradicted itself and just sounded confusing.

Here’s what some of the ‘DenyLikeJZ’ tweets have to say

As you will notice while getting lost in the hashtag, each one completely contradicts itself.

“I’ve never been to Saxonworld, Tony hosted me in their home, it was very lovely. #DenyLikeJZ,” said one user.

“The vehicle was very comfortable, but I didn’t see it and I never came close to it. #DenyLikeJZ”

“Reporter: have you ever met the Guptas?Zuma: No, they met me … #DenyLikeJZ,” said another.
