Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha documentary ‘in the works’

A Netflix documentary about convicted rapist–murderer Thabo Bester and his girlfriend, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, is reportedly in the pipeline as several production companies have been submitting proposals – Zimoja reports.

CAROL BOUWER’S PRODUCTION COMPANY A FIRM FAVOURITE

The publication reports that whilst a number of production companies are hoping to get the gig, businesswoman Carol Bouwer’s production company is a firm favourite.

In May, the former presenter’s company took over the license of the Miss World South Africa pageant.

According to a source, Bouwer has already met with her legal team to secure all the paperwork in case her company is appointed for the Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha doccie.

“Bouwer has already started the groundwork and basics just as going to the couple’s place of birth and trying to find people who grew up with the couple. Carol means business. She has hired some of the best investigative journalists. She is not playing games. She knows that this platform will give her international exposure,” adds another source.

When asked about the claims, Netflix PR representative, Tutu Zondo, said: “We have not received any word as yet, so I cannot confirm nor deny at the moment.”

THABO BESTER AND DR NANDIPHA’S NEXT COURT APPEARANCE

Bester – also known as the Facebook rapist – as well as his partner in crime, Dr Nandipha, have hogged headlines in the first half of 2023. This came after Ground Up lifted the lid on Bester’s audacious escape from Mangaung Correctional Services in Bloemfontein on 3 May 2022 — in which he was initially believed to have burned beyond recognition in a fire.

The rapist was serving a life sentence for killing his then-girlfriend and saleswoman Nomfundo Tyhulu in Cape Town and the rape and aggravated robbery of two women in Durban. He also committed a spate of rapes and robberies in at least four provinces.

Bester is currently detained at Kgosi Mampuru II C-max prison in Pretoria, whilst Dr Nandipha is kept in the hospital wing of the Kroonstad Correctional Centre in Free State. He will appear in court on 8 August with 11 co-accused, including Dr Nandipha and her father, Zolile Sekeleni.
